GREEN MOBILITY EXPO 2019

GREEN MOBILITY THE ONLY SOLUTION

  • Accelerated economic growth across the world is driving the need for increased transportation of people and goods, in turn leading to an increase in the vehicle sales. While this growth is spurring the economy, it is also associated with the challenges of minimizing environmental impact. With more and more people interested in greater mobility is the only solution to minimize the environmental impact caused by the transportation sector without impacting the growth momentum. In India, increasing pressure on urban infrastructure due to rapid population growth and increasing private motorization is driving the need for new solutions in urban mobility.

ELECTRIC MOBILITY DRIVING BEHAVIOURAL CHANGES, NEW BUSINESS MODELS FOR INDIA

  • The Indian Electric Vehicles (EV) market is very different from global markets as the dynamics of Indian economy, market needs and consumer attitudes are very unique. Going forward, EVs are expected to drive significant behavioural changes in the Indian consumer and its increasing adoption will lead to new business models in the mobility value chain, says a report. As per the report, India, home to one of the largest 2-wheeler population in the world, will witness a fast shift to EVs as it has the inherent advantage of easy charging. The concerns on operating range of EVs are misplaced, as personal cars are increasingly used for point to point travel and for a limited range of kilometres, making EVs more suitable. With EVs coming in, the fleet cars and lowering the operating costs in the long run, more passengers will move towards fleet cars in the future. If the battery swapping business model succeeds, we could see several battery service providers also coming up for various vehicle categories.

GOVERNMENT INITIATIVES

  • The electric vehicles (EV) market is expected to record doule-digit growth rates with rise in sales in India till 2020, according to a study.
  • Stricter emission norms, reducing battery prices and increasing consumer awareness are driving EV adoption in India.
  • In recent months, largely due to the government initiatives, India has been witnessing a heightened interest in electric vehicles and other green mobility solutions.
  • In 2017, India announces its vision towards “All Electric by 2030”. With such a thrust from the government, a mix of “Push and Pull” factors could shape the EV (electrified vehicle) landscape of India.
  • The government is focussing on creating charging infrastructure and policy frameworks so that by 2030, more than 30 percent of vehicles are EV.

INDIAN AUTOMIBILE MAKERS TAKING THE GREEN ROAD

  • In line with the government’s policy push to have an all-electric by 2030, automobile majors have unveiled a host of eco-friendly models:
  • For example, the suspension will no longer be mechanical but an electrical active suspension generating electricity and using it, in part, to manage itself to deliver a far better ride and minimise the use of fuel. This, in turn, will involve the use of more electronic components and devices.
  • Moreover, car entertainment systems with near-field communications technology or NFC, vehicle access, in-vehicle networks, and all features related to secure connected mobility will enhance the electronics content in EVs. Therefore, car-to-car communication, car-to-infrastructure communication, remote car management, and broadcast reception solutions will be in demand.
  • Gujarat, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra have emerged as the frontrunners of the burgeoning electric vehicle race. According to a recent report, these five states clocked the highest number of EV sales during FY 2016-17.

GMX 2019 MARK YOUR PRESENCE

  • The Green Mobility Xpo (GMX) 2019, the third in the series, scheduled from 3-5 February 2019 at PragatiMaidan, New Delhi, is a unique platform for the entire stakeholders of this sector to come together and initiate dialogues towards the goal of making Indian road transport greener and better in the coming years.
